Focusing on teaching, research and partnership building, the Ecological Research Center at the University of Memphis seeks to enhance the discovery and dissemination of critical knowledge for sustainability of natural resources in the great Memphis metropolitan area, the Mid-South region, the nation, and internationally.  One recent noteworthy project was the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan for Shelby Farms Park, the first comprehensive analysis of plant and animal communities in the Park. From its research, the Center produced biodiversity maps for the park and specific strategies to enhance ecosystem stability. The Center is located on the Park Avenue campus and is currently working with the University to enhance the natural appeal of their campus with improved walking trails, native landscaping, and bat houses.
